Weekly Fishing Report ~ June, 19 2023 – June 25, 2023
Fishing for bass has improved with water temperatures reaching between 64-65 degrees. The most successful approach this week has been utilizing Carolina rigs or straight sliders with sliding egg sinkers. Using a lighter line, around 10-12lb, has proven effective for catching both sand bass and calico bass. Additionally, half-day trips have yielded some nice sheepshead and a few halibut.
During 3/4 fishing trips, we have been targeting rockfish in the mornings and transitioning to bass fishing off Camp Pendleton as conditions allow. The results have been similar to those in the upper zones, with lighter lines being the preferred choice. Some anglers have had success using hard baits and surface iron to catch bass as the fish become more active with improving water temperatures.
At Catalina, Fury reported some successful fishing for bass, as well as catching some sheepshead and halibut. While there were signs of yellowtail, they did not bite at Catalina. However, it is expected to improve soon.
