Conservation

We’re deeply committed to safeguarding whale populations and preserving the ocean habitats they depend on.

Whale Watching & Marine Mammal Conservation

At Dana Wharf, every trip isn’t just an amazing experience—it’s a meaningful contribution to marine science and education. We’re proud partners of the Gulf of Catalina Gray Whale Preservation & Education Foundation, working alongside the University of Redlands and other research teams to deepen our understanding of whale and dolphin behavior. By reporting our sightings, using advanced survey technology, and sharing hotspot data, we help researchers track migrations, monitor populations, and protect ocean giants for generations to come.

Our vessels are outfitted with updated survey equipment and drone-friendly platforms, giving scientists real-time insights into whale movement and habitat use. When we log sightings—even when you’re just on board as a guest—you’re helping build critical datasets that inform conservation and policy decisions.

Education is a cornerstone of our mission. From school field trips and community whale festivals to public outreach events, Dana Wharf works year-round to inspire awareness and appreciation for these incredible animals. Every whale watching cruise is guided by an experienced naturalist or captain, who shares fascinating facts, research updates, and conservation stories—turning each trip into an opportunity to learn and connect with marine life.

Together with our partners, we’re committed to responsible whale watching: following best-practice guidelines, minimizing disturbance, and ensuring future generations get to witness these animals in thriving oceans. Join us on the water and experience unforgettable wildlife encounters—knowing your trip supports real conservation and education efforts.
